Ag OT Elimination Legislative Update

Ag OT Elimination Legislative Update (AB 1066) –Senate Action Upcoming in August

If you’ve been following WUD’s reports regarding the elimination of the ag overtime exemption (now AB 1066), you know it’s going to massively and negatively impact our employees. The grassroots efforts of Western United Dairymen members, along with many other ag and industry groups, played a critical role in defeating the original bill in the Assembly on June 2nd, with legislators receiving over 1,800 phone calls from those affected in the dairy industry and hundreds of emails. Through a sneaky process called “gut and amend,” the bill was reintroduced on the Senate side and must now be defeated again. As the Senate and Assembly come back into session this week, it’s important that we keep the volume turned up on our opposition to the bill.

The grassroots membership efforts of Western United Dairymen, along with many other ag and industry groups, played a critical role in having the measure fail in the Assembly on June 2nd. Senators listed below only need NOT vote, in addition to the Republicans voting no, to achieve victory and avoid this legislation going back to the Assembly this year.
Please contact these legislators –especially your local ones –and let them know you OPPOSE AB 1066, and it will HURT their districts’ economy. Following is a list of KEY Legislators, both in the Senate and the Assembly, that will be imperative in assisting dairy families with a “NO” vote on this legislation. Bolded members are especially critical to DAIRY’s interests and need direct contact. It really, really DOES HELP the entire industry when they hear from you!
