House members urge renewable fuels adjustment

Citing one of the worst droughts to hit the Midwest in more than 50 years, members of the House of Representatives are urging EPA to reduce the volume of renewable fuel that must be produced under the Renewable Fuel Standards of the Clean Air Act.  The 156 congressmen filed a petition with EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson on Thursday, centering their argument on rising corn prices and the use of corn for ethanol. Relief from the RFS is extremely urgent because another short corn crop would be devastating to the animal agriculture industry, food manufactures, foodservice providers, and consumers, they said.  (more) Aug. 3, 2012 Capital Press
