Strip-tillage field day Aug. 30 at Hanford dairy

A field day to evaluate the potential benefits of strip-tillage corn production is set for Wednesday, August 30, at the Giacomazzi Dairy in Hanford. Dino Giacomazzi produces a variety of forage crops, including wheat, corn, and sorghum-sudan. Over the past two years, he has initiated a very extensive farm study aimed at evaluating the potential of strip-tillage corn production.
Field day participants will learn about his experiences with strip-till and what he has learned about optimizing this conservation tillage system. The field day will look at whether it is better to strip-till before or after a pre-irrigation, if twin-row corn planting out performs single-row planting, which corn varieties yield best, and how different strip-tillers perform. The dairy is located at 6th Avenue and Highway 198 in Hanford. The field day runs from 9 a.m. until noon. Further information is available from Jeff Mitchell at (559) 303-9689.
