Modesto NRCS staff and Stanislaus districts to be honored
The California Association of Resource Conservation Districts (CARCD) will
present its CARCD Partnership recognition award to the staff of the Modesto
office of the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the West and East
Stanislaus resource conservation districts. The award to be presented on
November 2 at the CARCD annual conference in Santa Rosa recognizes “the
excellent work done in Stanislaus County to implement the Dairy Initiative,”
according to Dr. Daniel Mountjoy, Ph.D., Assistant State Conservationist for
Field Operations.
In 2004, NRCS redistributed $1.06 million in Environmental Quality Incentive
Program (EQIP) funds to help 21 Stanislaus County dairies address a wide range
of resource concerns. Later, the California NRCS implemented a special $10
million initiative targeted specifically at California dairy producers and other
confined animal operators. EQIP is a voluntary effort providing funding and
expertise for farmers and ranchers to improve the environmental quality of soil,
water, air, and other natural resources.
